This role is responsible for measuring, cutting, assembling, labeling, and packing materials to specification; maintaining tooling and equipment; complying with quality standards; and following safety and housekeeping practices to meet daily production goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Production & Fabrication
  • Measure, cut, and fabricate wood blocking per shop drawings, cut lists, and work orders using table saws, chop saws, band saws, and CNC saws (if applicable).
  • Cut and shape mineral wool fire stop blocking to specified dimensions and densities while maintaining edge integrity and minimizing fiber disturbance.
  • Perform basic assembly (e.g., laminations, fasteners, adhesives) and ensure parts are square, to spec, and free of defects.
  • Stage, label, and kit parts for downstream operations or shipment; verify counts, dimensions, and order completeness.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, BOMs, and routing sheets; confirm tolerances (e.g., ±1/16” unless otherwise noted).

Quality & Documentation

  • Inspect materials for defects (voids, warps, chips, density inconsistencies) and segregate nonconforming product.
  • Complete in-process and final inspections; document lot numbers and batch details for traceability—especially for fire stop materials.
  • Follow standard work, control plans, and quality checklists; escalate deviations and participate in root-cause/corrective actions.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear all required PPE (cut-resistant gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, Tyvek suit/dust masks or respirators as required for mineral wool handling).
  • Operate saws, hand tools, and material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, overhead crane if applicable) safely and only if trained/authorized.
  • Maintain clean work areas (5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and manage waste (sawdust, offcuts, mineral wool scraps) per company policy.
  • Comply with fire stop material handling guidance and manufacturer SDS/IFU (Instructions for Use).
Equipment & Maintenance
  • Perform daily start-up/shut-down checks, blade changes, and basic preventative maintenance (lubrication, alignment, dust collection checks).
  • Report equipment issues and assist maintenance with troubleshooting as needed.
  • Help with tool crib organization, inventory accuracy, and reordering consumables (blades, adhesives, fasteners, labels).
Throughput & Continuous Improvement
  • Meet or exceed daily takt/throughput targets with minimal rework and scrap.
  • Contribute ideas to improve safety, quality, cycle time, yield, and ergonomics.
  • Cross-train across stations (saw, assembly, packing, labeling, kitting).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Passing a medical evaluation exam
  • Pass a fit test for wearing a respirator
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1+ year(s) in manufacturing, carpentry, millwork, or construction prefabrication (wood or insulation handling preferred).
  • Proficient with tape measures, calipers/squares, and common shop tools; comfortable reading basic shop drawings.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. repeatedly and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Basic computer literacy for work orders, labels, scanners, and data entry.
